Apple just announced that they are adding broadcast radio capability to the new iPod nano. Local radio already reaches over 200 million people each week. I think that the most popular mp3 player connecting to the local radio stations will increase the amount of people listening to the radio. Since kids now a days just ususally listen to their iPods, this can introduce them to even more and new music though their iPods. When they hear a song on the radio using the new iPod, then they can download the song from iTunes instantly. This benefits broadcasters, apple, musicians, record lables, and the American consumer.

The former head of the National Association of Broadcasters, a radio-tv trade association, lobbied Apple to include the FM tuner. While the NAB argued that FM radio represented an immediate means to receive emergency information--weather news, safety info or other news--part of NAB's motive had to be to give the iPod generation a chance to switch to regular radio in the event they grew tired of their preselected music.

Wow nice!! I believe that having radio will be a great benefit to the Ipod generation, especially because the instant access to iTunes and the ability to purchase a song immediately. I personally have wished a great deal of times that my iPod had radio capabilities because it can get boring listening to preselected music sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Samuel, having a radio on your ipod would be a wonerful addition. Apple never seems to fail coming up with new and exciting ideas for ipods or any of their products. I think that this is also big for radio stations because it increases the amount of listeners they recieve. It gives people more options for music because if they arent near a computer and dont want to hear the same playlist over and over they can just switch over to radio
